Sworn translation of a birth certificate (French → German)
Need a sworn, certified translation of your birth certificate for a German authority? I translate and certify Cameroonian, French and other Francophone birth certificates in the format German institutions expect.
The birth certificate is the document most often requested for a university enrolment, a visa application, a marriage or a naturalisation in Germany. Registry offices (Standesamt), immigration offices (Ausländerbehörde) and universities require a sworn translation carrying the seal and signature of a translator recognised by a German court.
I translate birth certificates issued in Cameroon, France and other Francophone countries, including certificates with marginal notes (marriage, acknowledgement). You receive a signed PDF first, then the certified original by post.
What you'll need
- A complete, legible scan or photo of the certificate (both sides if it carries marginal notes)
- Any visible marginal notes
- The spelling of names as shown in your passport, if different
- No need to send the original document by post
Frequently asked questions
Will my translation be accepted by the German authorities?
As a rule, yes: translations by a translator sworn in Germany are recognised by immigration offices, universities, registry offices and embassies. Some institutions additionally require an apostille or legalisation of the original; that remains your responsibility.
Do I need to send the original document?
No, a complete and legible scan or photo is enough. Make sure all pages, stamps and signatures are visible.
How do I count the pages?
Count every side of the original that contains text. A GCE slip with the grading scale on the back therefore counts as 2 pages.
How long does delivery take?
Express: 2 business days. Standard: 4 business days. Delivery times start once payment and all documents have been received; weekends and public holidays don’t count. Postal delivery of the original takes additional time.
